The Bat is in fact the 2nd suspended coaster to operate at Kings Island. The first iteration of the ride (Of the same name) operated briefly from 1980 to 1984. Being a prototype with a very forceful layout it was plagued by mechanical problems, until it was forced to close.

The horizontal barrels contain bullseyes to hit. On other rides of this type, hitting targets deactivates water effects, giving you safe passage. On Battle Galleons, hitting targets turns on more water effects, so it is an odd incentive.
